You and me were always with each other
Before we knew the others was ever there
You and me we belong together
Just like a breath needs the air
I told you if you called I would come runnin’
Across the highs the lows and the in between
You and me we’ve got two minds that think as one
– You + Me by Rose Ave.
Janelle and Daniel were last-minute wedding clients. Janelle is an old friend from dance class, and she met Daniel at Bethel in Redding, California, where they both studied. From the moment we sat down and talked about their unplugged ceremony, her hand-revised wedding dress, and their in-between live painter and live music – I was so excited to be their photographer!
They were good friends before they were together. I remember seeing a photo of them sitting in a coffee shop together and thinking they were engaged at that point. You could cut the chemistry between them in the photo – so imagine my surprise when Janelle said that, at that point, they hadn’t even expressed that they liked eachother!
A common theme, spoken by those giving speeches or speaking during the ceremony, was that they are so intentional about building community. It was amazing: their friends and family were so tight-knit, and spoke so highly of Daniel and Janelle. They took communion together in the ceremony, which was beautiful. You could feel how unbelievably loved and respected they are. Watching almost everyone dance at the end, hearing friends and family cry with happiness, and all the laughter – made me admire how incredibly wise they have been in supporting, investing in, and loving their community. Not only are they super rad people, they also have the grooviest style, and their bridal party and groomsmen rocked my world! Awesome folks.
Thanks for letting me be a part of your beautiful day, Janelle and Daniel! Bless you as you settle into your Californian home, as you learn and grow together, and all the journey before you.
Thanks also to my best friend and second shooter, Charis Ord!
